Hack 1: Schedule Sessions
We live a high-paced life, where our days are filled with tasks, to-dos, chores, and trying to keep up with our social lives. So, we’ve learned that the only way to overcome this “too busy to play” excuse, is to schedule a weekly session. Thus, open your calendar, find one hour somewhere, and create a recurring weekly event. Then, when your session time arrives, turn off your phone, close your web browser, and start practicing!
Hack 2: Learn Music Theory
Nothing ruins fun like frustration! So, the process of making music will only be more enjoyable if you learn music theory. Why? Simple music theory will help you be more creative, understand what you are playing, allow you to communicate better with other musicians (especially when playing as a group), and will save you valuable time.
Hack 3: Get Support!
Music opens the door to online (and real-life communities). So, if you ever need help or want to jam, reach out to fellow musicians! Plus, this will not only create new friendships, which is deeply valuable in itself, but sharing your works-in-progress and getting supportive feedback from your peers will fast-track your progress.
So, write down these three hacks, stick them somewhere you’ll see every day, and soon you will be playing like a pro!
