How to play “I Can See Clearly Now” by Johnny Nash
This month we are sharing the chords for “I Can See Clearly Now” by Johnny Nash, a great song that many artists have covered since its original release in 1972, with the most notable cover performed by Jimmy Cliff in 1993 for the soundtrack of the movie “Cool Runnings.” The song has strong Reggae influences, mostly for the fact that Johnny Nash had collaborated with Bob Marley in the past. “I Can See Clearly Now” reached the number one spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in the year of its release in 1972.
I also happen to relate this song to my awesome dad, and It brings me back to when I was living in Boston while studying at Berklee, and my dad came to visit. We took the most incredible trip to New York on a $10 Chinatown Bus, and while staying at a hotel, this was the first song that we heard on the Alarm Clock when we woke up to the radio. Ever since, this has been ‘our song,’ and I’m sure he can relate as well!
