Hey everyone!
Here is our first exercise for guitar. This guitar exercise is intended for beginners and it makes a great warmup for daily practice.
Following after what we learned on ‘Guitar Lesson #1: Strings of The Guitar’, this exercise will help you gain control over your picking technique and it will help you locate and accurately play individual strings for future and more advance songs and exercises. Please note that I highly recommend using an ‘Anchor’ by placing either your pinky finger or both your pinky and ring finger of your right hand below the strings and lightly touching the guitar. The use of this ‘Anchor’ technique has been quite a debate, as many professional guitar players don’t approve of it and don’t quite feel it is necessary, but truthfully it works for me and it’s been a great tool on my career.
This Guitar Exercise is divided into 3 smaller exercises.
1- Practice picking the strings down starting on the Low E String and going through the strings one by one, all the way to the High E String.
2- Practice picking the strings up starting on the High E String and going through the strings one by one, all the way to the Low E String.
3- Practice picking the strings starting on the Low E and picking down all the way to the B String, followed by picking up on the High E string and continue picking up one by one all the way to the A String, where at this point we will once again switch directions and start picking down on the Low E for a continued cycle.
