The right music in a restaurant can make you linger for dessert. The wrong kind will make you leave. — May 16, 2017 Restaurants agonize constantly over ways to eke the most money out of their customers. Dimming lights, deploying seasonal menus, and up-selling (more famously known as “Do you want fries with that?”) are all psychological tricks that many employ—and new research suggests there is another potent strategy to add to the mix. Soundtrack Your Brand, a Spotify-backed music-streaming startup, […]

The truth is that there’s barely been a moment in history when a new dance hasn’t appalled parents, dramatically widened the generation gap and shocked newspaper editors. YouTube, digital sheet music and apps have long been popular; augmented and virtual reality are likely to further reshape music learning. — May 9, 2017 One of the biggest challenges to traditional music learning is the need for practice. Students must play scales, chords and patterns over and over in hopes of developing muscle memory; for many, it is a daunting and tedious task. Research has shown that individual practice is often not productive because learners receive limited feedback and […]

John Williams has written hours and hours of music for the Star Wars movies. But which individual bits are the best? We’ve decided! — May 4, 2017 These are inarguably the best musical themes from all the Star Wars films: Finn’s Confession “I’m a stormtrooper. Like all of them, I was taken from a family I’ll never know and was raised to do one thing.” With those words, John Boyega’s Finn sets out his emotional stall in The Force Awakens […]

I love how Marcos lets me learn so many songs, not just one! I like how he gives me compliments. It’s really fun when Marcos does the bass clef with the left hand and I get to make up my own song that goes with it for a warm up. It’s fun because I get to make up my own songs. I love the sound of the piano!

I really like that we get to pick what songs we want to learn in Marcos’s guitar class. I also love that he is compassionate and lets us progress at our own pace. Marcos knows EVERYTHING about instruments, and I’m glad he can share some of it with me. I’m glad that I get to learn how to read, write, and play music for the guitar. It is a lot of fun when Marcos and I play the guitar together!

I highly recommend 123 Rock to anyone looking for a music teacher!

Both of my children love their music lessons with Marcos. They look forward to their music lessons each week and come home eager to practice their new pieces. I especially love that he teaches them to compose their own pieces and inspires their musical creativity. Marcos is always positive and encouraging with my children, and he has a knack for bringing out their best. I highly recommend 123 Rock to anyone looking for a music teacher!
