Sarah Garcia is session vocalist, music teacher, and LA native, passionate about making music and creating space for others to do the same in supportive and joyful community. A lifelong student herself, Sarah began piano lessons at age four and guitar lessons ten years later, picking up other stringed instruments along the way (bass, ukulele, mandolin, fiddle, banjo). She began studying classical vocal performance under the late Gwendolyn Lytle at Pomona College in 2014 while apprenticing for the music department’s in-house, Grammy award-winning audio engineer Barry Werger.
She toured internationally with the consortium’s chamber choir (with notable stops that included a Sunday morning mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome) directed by Donna M. DiGrazia, before pausing her studies to pursue personal music projects. In the years that followed, she recorded and distributed original music between tours with indie rock band, Forty Feet North, and has since recorded and collaborated live with acts such as the California Honeydrops, Dirty Revival, Achilles Wheel, Calling Cadence, Anna Carmela, Summer and the Lovers, and Marcellina Villarreal. She is presently earning a degree in recording engineering from Berklee College of Music.”
As a teacher, Sarah believes wholeheartedly in a collaborative learning environment guided by curiosity and open space for self expression. Uplifting students’ voices, building confidence, and having fun are the most important goals in her lessons, whether the focus is on developing technical skills, music literacy, composition, improvisation, or songwriting.
In her spare time, Sarah prioritizes getting outdoors in all seasons for activities like longboarding, snowboarding, mountain biking, and climbing. She finds deep joy in traveling, spending quality time with loved ones, and connecting with folks who value openness, kindness, and healthy communication.
